Jay Slade - Sprinter and Guide Runner

About Jay

A former sprinter of Cal State San Marcos, Jay runs run, the 60m, 100m, 200m and the occasional 400m (if his coach is feeling particularly mean). Since 2012 he's been part of Team USA as a member and 2 time Silver Medalist of the U.S Paralympic Track and Field team as a guide runner and caller for visually impaired sprinters and jumpers. At the Olympic Games in London 2012, he guided an athlete to top 5 finishes in both the 100m and the 200m. At the 2013 Paralympic World Track and Field championships in Lyon, France he guided an athlete to a Silver Medal and American record in the 400m and was also a guide on the 4x100 relay team that took Silver and also set an American record.

Jay is the first US guide to receive a medal for an individual, non relay event.

Next on the competition trail is the 2015 ParPanAmerican games in Toronto, Canada, Para World track and field championships in Qatar and ultimately the Summer Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In addition to his guider runner duties, he's currently training to qualify for the US Indoor National Championships for the 60m.

If he's not running, he's probably geeking out over Japanese car culture, good music, hole-in-the wall food spots, Marvel DC Comics and movies....and yes, classic Disney movies.
